Michael Jordan was photographed in Saint-Tropez, France, alongside Erling Haaland, wearing a Norqain Wild ONE Skeleton in red gold. Estimated price: around $18,000.

It is not the watch most people would guess. Jordan could wear anything, and he picked a young independent Swiss brand most people have never heard of. Haaland, for the record, has his own watch on this site: the Breitling Chronomat with a meteorite dial.

What it is

Norqain is an independent, family-run Swiss watch brand, and the Wild ONE is its sports watch. This is the 39mm Skeleton in red gold, a size that wears smaller than you would expect on a wrist as big as Jordan’s.

The case is a hybrid made of three layers. On top is a plate of 18-carat 5N red gold. Underneath is a chassis made of NORTEQ, Norqain’s own ultra-light carbon fiber, here in dark brown. Between them sits a white rubber shock absorber that protects the movement from knocks.

The dial and the movement

The dial is skeletonised and silver-toned, so you can see the mechanics underneath. The hour markers are faceted and gold-plated, and the hands are filled with Super-LumiNova so they glow in the dark.

Inside is Norqain’s automatic Caliber N08S, certified as a chronometer by the official Swiss testing body, COSC. It has a screw-down crown and is water resistant to 200 meters, and it comes on a white woven-texture rubber strap that matches the shock absorber.

Why it is an interesting pick

At around $18,000 this is a modest watch by the standards of this site, which has covered pieces close to a million dollars. What you get is something rarer than a big name: a watch most people will not recognise, made by a small company, with real engineering in it.

The trade-off is resale. Young brands do not hold value like Rolex or Patek Philippe yet, so treat this as a watch to wear, not an investment.

Where to find one

We could not find the Wild ONE on our shopping partners, so the link goes to a different Norqain watch we could find: the Freedom 60 Chrono on a white strap.

Worth saying

Jordan wore it with a plain white t-shirt, and the white strap matches it. It is a relaxed holiday look from someone who could have worn a far louder watch.
