Erling Haaland after Norway beat the Ivory Coast in Dallas, in a hat shop, wearing a cowboy hat, a novelty t-shirt and a $48,500 rose gold Breitling with his own name on it.

Worth saying immediately: this is his watch in the literal sense. Haaland is a Breitling ambassador and this is a signature edition, built with him, carrying his initials on the chronograph hand. He is not a customer who chose it off a shelf.

But the dial is the reason this page exists, and it is the most genuinely uncopyable thing we have put on this site.

The dial is a meteorite

It is cut from the Muonionalusta — an iron meteorite that fell in northern Sweden and has been dated to around 4.5 billion years old. It is older than the Earth in any meaningful sense, having formed alongside the solar system rather than on a planet.

The pattern you can see across the dial is called the Widmanstätten structure. It is a lattice of interlocking crystals of two iron-nickel alloys, and it forms only when molten metal cools at roughly one degree per million years. That happens in the core of a shattered asteroid drifting in space. It does not happen anywhere on Earth.

Which is the part worth pausing on. This entire site is built on finding the version of something you can actually afford. Almost everything can be approximated — a silhouette, a colour, a texture, a shape. This cannot. You cannot manufacture a Widmanstätten pattern, at any price, because the process requires several million years and no gravity.

Every slice is also different, so no two of these dials are the same. Breitling did not design that; it is just what the rock is.

The rest of the watch

A Chronomat B01 in 42mm, in 18-carat rose gold. The Chronomat is Breitling’s pilot-adjacent chronograph, and the recognisable details are all here: the unidirectional bezel with its four rider tabs, the integrated Rouleaux bracelet with its rounded links, 200 metres of water resistance.

Inside is Breitling’s in-house calibre 01, a self-winding chronograph with a column wheel and vertical clutch — the more expensive way to build a chronograph, and the reason the pushers feel crisp rather than mushy. Seventy hours of power reserve, chronometer certified.

The caseback is engraved with the limitation. Two hundred and fifty were made.

Two hundred and fifty pieces

Scarce, but not in the way Mbappé’s twenty-five-piece Hublot is scarce. Two hundred and fifty is a real production run — enough that examples reach the secondary market and enough that a price can be established.

Signature editions are a strange category to value. They carry a premium while the athlete is at their peak and can soften afterwards, because the thing that makes the watch desirable is tied to one person’s career rather than to the design.

Breitling also sits below Rolex, Patek and AP on resale generally, as we set out on the Hublot page. Rose gold holds a floor because of the metal, but buy this because you want it, not as a trade.

Where to find one

The usual position. Breitling is widely counterfeited and the Chronomat is among the most copied shapes in the range. Fakes of meteorite dials also exist — usually a printed pattern that looks convincing in a photograph and obviously wrong in the hand.

There is no cheap version of this watch and we will not link one. Buy from an authorised dealer or a seller that authenticates, with the caseback numbering intact.

Worth saying

We priced a full Haaland outfit on this page — $2,800 of clothing, replaced for $81.26. It is still the largest gap on the site.

This is the opposite case. A cowboy hat, a joke t-shirt about Dallas, gym shorts — and on his wrist, a piece of an asteroid that has been drifting since before the planet existed, set in rose gold.

We can find you a version of the t-shirt. Nobody can find you a version of the dial.
