Sydney Sweeney’s Black Shirt Dress Outfit: Get the Look
The original
$6,950
Our version
$99.79
Sydney Sweeney left her New York hotel in the kind of outfit that looks thrown together and absolutely is not. One colour, four pieces, no jewellery beyond a stack of silver rings, and it still reads as a full look. The total, before the belt: $6,950.
The reason it works is the belt. Underneath it, the Vivienne Westwood is a loose taffeta shirt dress with a point collar and short puffed sleeves. On its own it hangs straight and reads as a men’s shirt scaled up. Cinched hard at the natural waist with a wide patent belt, the same dress turns into a defined bodice and a full, rounded skirt. That one move is the entire outfit, and it is the one piece nobody credited.
Everything else stays deliberately small: narrow black sunglasses, a compact suede bag carried in the hand rather than worn on the shoulder, a pointed pump. Nothing competes with the silhouette. That restraint is what you are actually copying here, and it costs almost nothing to get right.

Do not search for a plain shirt dress. You will get jersey and poplin, and both drape wrong. The Westwood is stiff, which is what holds the skirt away from the body once the belt goes on. Soft fabric collapses and the effect dies. This one has the point collar, the full button placket, the short puffed sleeve and a gathered skirt with real body to it. Size up if you are between sizes, because you are belting it anyway and the volume is the point.
One honest note: Amazon flags this dress as a frequently returned item. At $20 that is a gamble worth taking, but check the size chart against your own measurements before you order rather than after.

The piece that does the work
Price checked 25 August 2026
This is the most important twelve dollars on the page. Nobody credited the belt, but without it there is no outfit, just a large black shirt. Wide, patent, plain squared buckle, no studs or logo plate. Worn at the natural waist, not on the hip — on the hip it becomes a 2000s low-slung look and loses all the volume. Buckle it one notch tighter than feels natural. The gathering above and below the belt is the whole effect.

The Prada is a narrow flat-top rectangle in thick black acetate. This is the easiest piece on the list to get close on, because the shape is everywhere right now — but most cheap versions run too tall in the lens and end up reading as a rounded wraparound. You want the lens noticeably wider than it is deep, and the arms thick rather than wire. This pair has both.

Small, soft, black, short strap. The Jimmy Choo has a snakeskin-embossed trim but at any real distance the texture contrast barely registers, so plain suede gets you there. Carry it in your hand the way she does rather than on the shoulder — it changes the line of the whole outfit and costs nothing. Avoid anything structured or boxy. The point is that it slumps.

Straight answer on this one: there is no real dupe. The Scarlett’s signature is a corset-style upper, leather lacing hand-threaded across the vamp and closed with an invisible stitch, set on Jimmy Choo’s teardrop heel. Nothing at this price replicates that detail, and the versions claiming to are lace-fabric pumps, which is a different thing entirely.
So this is a substitution rather than a dupe: a clean black pointed stiletto that does the same job in the outfit. In a look this pared back the shoe is carrying shape, not detail, and shape is the part you can buy cheaply.
What it costs
Five pieces, $99.79, against $6,950 for the originals. That is 98.6 per cent less, and the belt — the piece nobody listed — is twelve dollars of it.
If you only take one thing from this: belt a loose black dress at the natural waist and pull it tighter than you think you should. Everything else here is detail.
