Shakira’s Cargo Trousers Outfit in Colombia: Get the Look

Three pieces credited, $3,040, walking through Quibdó in Colombia. It is Shakira’s second appearance here, after her World Cup look.

A black vest, wide cargo trousers and white trainers. There is no logo anywhere in this outfit, no watch and no bag. It is the plainest thing we have priced at this price.

And the most expensive item is the trainers, at $1,650 — more than half the total.

The trainers

White, high-top, on a thick raised sole, worn with the trousers pooling over them so only the toe and a slice of the platform show.

Which is the whole point of this row. Sixteen hundred and fifty dollars for a shoe that is, in this photograph, a white shape under a hem. There is no visible branding and no detail you could name from across the street.

The trousers

Dark brown-green, very wide, pleated at the waist, with cargo pockets on the thigh and zips at the knee. They fall well past the shoe.

The knee zips are Rhude’s detail, and they are the one thing a cheaper pair will not have. Everything else — the width, the pleat, the pocket placement, the drape — is standard workwear cut, and workwear belongs to nobody.

Get the width right and the rest follows. These need to be genuinely oversized, sitting low on the hip and breaking heavily over the trainers.

The vest

Black, ribbed, fitted, scoop neck. Nothing else.

This is the second ribbed vest we have priced this month. Vinícius Jr’s was $820; this one is $240. Both are plain cotton rib with no branding, and both are the cheapest thing in their outfit to replace.

Fitted rather than loose, and long enough to tuck slightly under the waistband. Black only.

What it costs

Three pieces, $84.97 against $3,040. That is 97.2 per cent less.

There is nothing complicated on this page. No protected shape, no logo, no watch, nothing we had to refuse. Three ordinary garments — a vest, cargo trousers and white trainers — that happen to carry designer prices.

The honest summary: this outfit is about proportion, not product. Wide trousers, a fitted vest, a platform sole to lift the hem. Those three decisions cost nothing, and they are the entire look.
