Lewis Hamilton’s Pinstripe and Camel Outfit at Monza: Get the Look
The original
$22,155
Our version
$351.34
Six pieces credited, $22,155, walking into Monza past a Ferrari F40. It is the most items we have ever had on one page and the second most expensive outfit we have priced.
And $9,700 of it is the briefcase. Nearly half the total is one bag.
The white shirt and black tie underneath are not credited, which is the usual story — the two garments doing the most structural work are the two nobody lists.

Credited separately at $3,500 and $2,000, but it is one suit and we have replaced it with one suit.
Black with a fine white pinstripe, double-breasted, worn buttoned. The trousers are tapered but not slim — they hang straight and break once over the shoe.
The pinstripe is the whole period reference. A plain black double-breasted suit is a different, much more formal outfit. The stripe is what makes this read as 1970s rather than boardroom, and it has to be fine and widely spaced. A bold chalk stripe tips into costume.
Double-breasted matters too. It is what gives the chest that slab of fabric under the open coat.

Camel, long, worn open and unbelted over the shoulders. A balmacaan is a coat with raglan sleeves and a small turned collar, cut loose all the way down.
Double-face wool means the fabric is woven as two layers bonded together, so it has no lining and the edges can be left raw. That is genuinely expensive to make and it is most of what the $6,300 is for. It also makes the coat hang very heavily and hold a straight line, which is visible here.
The colour is the part you must get right. Camel against a black pinstripe suit is the entire colour scheme of this outfit. A grey or navy coat gives you nothing.
Wear it open. Belted and closed, it is a different garment.

The most expensive single item we have covered outside the watch pages, and the one we are least able to replace.
It is a hard-sided attaché case in Louis Vuitton’s monogram canvas, with leather corners and brass locks. The monogram is the point of it, and the monogram is exactly what we will not link a copy of.
Our alternative is a plain structured leather briefcase. It is not the Président and does not pretend to be. What it shares is the shape and the job: a rigid rectangular case carried flat in one hand, which is what gives the whole outfit its formality.
We have left the saving figure off this row. Eighty dollars against nine thousand seven hundred is not a comparison, and a canvas-and-brass case built by hand is not something a laptop bag replaces.
If you want the visual effect on a budget, go for hard-sided and rectangular over soft and slouchy. The rigidity is what reads, not the material.

This is the same hat. Not an alternative — an actual Kangol 504, currently five dollars below the credited price.
The 504 has been made since the 1950s and costs what a hat costs. There is no markup to strip out here, and no reason to buy an imitation of a fifty-dollar object.
It is also the item doing the most work per dollar. A flat cap with a pinstripe suit and a camel coat is what pushes the whole outfit somewhere specific; without it you have a man in a suit and overcoat.

Plain white shirt, plain black tie, both uncredited and both essential.
Against a black pinstripe the white shirt is the only bright panel on the body, and the black tie splits it vertically. That narrow white-either-side-of-black column is what stops the suit reading as a solid mass under the coat.
Keep the tie plain and the knot small. Any pattern or width here competes with the pinstripe and both lose.

Retro oval sunglasses, glass lens

Price checked 15 September 2026
Small, oval, dark lens in a thin metal frame. Narrow enough that they sit inside the width of the face.
Small frames are the correct choice with a flat cap. The cap already sits low across the brow, and an oversized lens underneath it crowds the whole upper half of the face.
What it costs
Six pieces, $351.34 against $22,155. That is 98.4 per cent less.
But the briefcase distorts it. Take the bag out and the clothing went from $12,455 to $271.35 — 97.8 per cent, which is close to our usual range.
And one number is worth sitting with: the cheapest credited item, the $55 Kangol, is the only thing on this page we did not need to replace at all. You can buy the exact hat Lewis Hamilton is wearing for fifty dollars.
