Kylie Jenner’s Ecru Trousers Outfit in New York: Get the Look

Three pieces credited, $1,475, courtside at Madison Square Garden. That is the cheapest outfit we have priced in weeks, and after a run of pages dominated by six-figure watches it is a relief to write.

It is also one of the easiest to copy: three plain pieces in two colours, no logos, nothing that depends on a label to work.

The trousers

Ecru, high-waisted and slim through the leg, falling cleanly to the ankle. Isabel Marant cuts trousers to sit close without clinging, and the warm off-white reads softer than optical white under arena lights.

Keep the colour warm. Ecru and ivory sit better next to a black leather jacket than a bright white, which can look blue in photographs.

Our alternative is cut wider through the leg, which is more forgiving. If you want the slimmer line of the original, size down.

The top

White, ribbed, scoop neck, cropped just above the waist and fitted close to the body.

At $50 the original is not expensive, and the saving here is small. Guizio is a contemporary label rather than a luxury house, and fifty dollars for a well-cut tank is a normal price.

Keep it fitted and cropped. A loose tank breaks the line between the top and the high waist of the trousers.

The sandals

Black thong sandals on a low kitten heel. A toe post, two thin straps, a slim heel, no hardware.

The Manolo is made in soft nappa leather and will be more comfortable over an evening than anything at ten dollars. But in this photograph, under full-length trousers, you see a black toe post and a slim heel and nothing else.

Low heel, black, thin straps. Anything chunky or sporty fights the trousers.

What it costs

Three pieces, $69.94 against $1,475. That is 95.3 per cent less.

Everything here is ordinary. Ecru trousers, a white crop tank, black kitten-heel sandals — about seventy dollars of very plain clothing. The outfit works because it is simple: three clean pieces in two colours, with a black jacket over the top.
