Kim Kardashian Outfit in Chicago: SKIMS Dress and Hermès Kelly Cut

Four pieces credited, $26,960, on a staircase in Chicago. It is Kim Kardashian’s second appearance here, after her Galliano suit dress in Paris.

A disclosure first. The dress is SKIMS, the shapewear and clothing label Kim co-founded — and the mannequins on the wall behind her are wearing SKIMS bras. She is standing in a SKIMS store, in her own product.

The rest of the number is almost entirely one object: a Hermès Kelly Cut clutch, credited at $25,000. The clothes and shoes together come to $1,960.

The dress

Black, high neck, cut in at the shoulders like a halter, and fitted all the way to the ankle.

Worth saying plainly: at $110, the SKIMS dress is already the most reasonably priced piece on this page, and it is exactly what she is here to promote. If you want the real thing, it is not an extravagant buy. The alternative we have linked does the same shape for less — a ribbed, stretch, ankle-length column.

The sunglasses

A single black shield across the eyes, wrapping round to the temples.

The mask or shield frame is a shape, not a brand — it has come in and out of fashion since the 1980s. With her hair pulled back and the dress up to the neck, it is the only strong line on the face.

One piece of dark lens, wide enough to wrap. Keep the hair back so the shape shows.

The boots

Black, knee high, pointed, on a stiletto. Under a floor-length dress, all you see is the toe.

Which is the honest point about this row: $1,200 of boot, and one black point visible. Pointed toe, slim heel, black — the rest is under the hem.

What it costs

Three pieces, $78.96 against $26,960. That is 99.7 per cent less, and the clutch makes that figure meaningless.

Without the clutch, the outfit cost $1,960 and we replaced it for $78.96 — 96.0 per cent less.

And the shape of this outfit is almost comically simple: a black dress, black sunglasses, black boots. Everything that makes it look expensive is one bag — and the one piece she is actually selling costs $110.
