Ice Spice’s Fur and Track Top Outfit in New York: Get the Look

Four pieces credited, $28,290, at a BronxWorks event in New York.

And the largest object in the photograph is not on the list. The fur jacket draped off her shoulders takes up more of the frame than anything else she is wearing, and nobody credited it. We are starting there.

The fur jacket

Tan and brown, cropped, worn pushed off both shoulders so the sleeves hang empty behind her arms. It frames the entire upper half of the photograph.

We do not know whether hers is real fur or faux, and we are not going to guess. What we will say is this: our alternative is faux, and on this one we think faux is simply the better purchase rather than the compromise.

That is a different argument from the rest of this site. Usually we are telling you what you lose at the lower price — the hand, the drape, the years of wear. With fur, a good faux costs a fraction, needs no specialist cleaning or cold storage, will not shed or split at the seams as skins age, and does the same job in a photograph. There is no craft being lost.

Cropped and two-tone if you can find it. The sleeves need to be full enough to hold their shape when the jacket is worn off the shoulder, which is the entire styling idea here.

The track top

Red and white, cropped very short, zip front with a high funnel collar and three stripes down the sleeve.

Another designer collaboration built on a mass-market base. Avavav is the design partner; adidas makes the garment. A standard adidas track top is a fifth of the price and carries the same three stripes.

Crop length is what matters. It has to end above the ribs — the gap between the hem and the jeans is a deliberate part of the proportion.

The boots

Tan suede, over the knee, on a stiletto heel, with the top folded down into a wide cuff.

A note on how we picked this one. Several cheap boots in this shape are listed with the word “shark” in the product title, which is sellers signalling that the boot is a Givenchy copy. We skipped all of those.

The Shark Lock’s distinctive feature is its hardware — the buckle and lock detail down the shaft. A plain slouchy suede boot with a fold-over cuff is a generic shape that predates it and is made by hundreds of brands. That is what we have linked: the silhouette, without the part Givenchy owns.

Tan suede, pointed toe, heel. The fold at the top is what creates the volume around the knee.

The jeans

Mid blue, sitting low on the hip, with contrast stitching and detailing on the back pockets, worn long and slightly flared over the boots.

At $120 the original is a normal price for branded denim, so the saving here is the smallest on the page.

The wash matters more than the cut. It needs to be a mid-blue with visible fading and contrast stitching — a flat dark indigo gives you a completely different, much more formal jean.

The watch

Eighty-eight per cent of the outfit total, and barely visible in the photograph.

The Santos is one of the oldest designs in watchmaking — Cartier made it in 1904 for the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, who wanted something he could read while flying without taking his hands off the controls. The square case and exposed screws on the bezel have been there ever since.

At $25,000 this is a gold or gold-and-steel reference rather than the plain steel model, which sits considerably lower. As on every watch page here, we are not linking a copy — the Santos is heavily counterfeited and a fake is not a dupe.

What it costs

Five pieces, $155.17 against $28,290. That is 99.4 per cent less, and the watch makes that figure meaningless.

The four garments were $3,290 and we replaced them for $155.17 — 95.3 per cent less, which is an ordinary result.

But the number that actually matters on this page is $45.99. That is the faux fur jacket — the biggest thing in the photograph, credited by nobody, and the one item where we would argue the cheap version is the better buy rather than the lesser one.
