Gigi Hadid’s All-Miu Miu Outfit in Miami: Get the Look

Four pieces credited, $11,160, and every one of them is Miu Miu. Gigi Hadid at her own Miami event, dressed head to toe in the brand she was there for.

The structure is simple and very old: an oversized masculine jacket over something short and tight. Pinstripe blazer, leather mini, sheer tights, pointed heels. What makes it work is the contrast between the jacket — which is deliberately too big — and everything under it, which is deliberately not.

Three things are not on the credit list and all three matter: the white ribbed top, the tights, and a pearl choker layered with a gold chain.

The top

Nine dollars, uncredited, and the only light thing between a black jacket and a black skirt. Take it out and the whole top half becomes a single dark mass.

Ribbed, not plain jersey. The vertical rib catches light and gives the fabric some structure so it holds its shape against the blazer rather than disappearing under it. Fitted, and long enough to reach the skirt waistband — there should be no gap.

The blazer

The most important thing here is the fit, and the fit is intentionally wrong. It drops off the shoulder, the sleeves cover half the hand, and it hangs to mid-thigh — longer than the skirt underneath. A blazer that actually fits gives you a completely different outfit.

What is different: hers has a fine pinstripe; most oversized blazers at this price are plain black. If you can find a pinstripe in the same cut, take it — the stripe adds a formality that plays against the leather skirt. If not, plain black still works, because the oversizing is carrying the idea.

Buy two sizes up from your normal fit, not one.

The skirt

Black leather, high waisted, very short, with a belt detail at the waist. Under it in the photograph a white slip shows at the hem — a deliberate flash of the same white as the top.

Length is what you need to get right. It has to be shorter than the blazer for the proportion to work. If the skirt shows below the jacket, the whole thing turns into an ordinary blazer-and-skirt combination.

The bag

Be clear about the limit here. The Miu Miu bag has the brand name spelled out across the front in contrasting patchwork panels. That is a trademark, and any cheap bag carrying it is a counterfeit — we will not link one and you should not buy one.

What you can copy is everything else, and everything else is what actually does the work: a structured bowling shape with a short top handle, carried in the hand, in tan against an otherwise entirely black outfit. That single warm colour in the middle of the frame is the reason the bag registers at all.

Tan or camel, not dark brown. It needs to read as light against the black.

The shoes

Sharply pointed, patent, slingback, with a decorative detail at the toe. The green is very dark — under most light it reads as black, and only shows its colour up close.

What is different: the exact dark green is hard to find at any price. Black patent in the same shape gets you almost all the way, because that is how hers photograph anyway. If you can find a bottle green, it is a nice touch, but it is the last thing on this page worth hunting for.

The point of the toe matters more than the colour. It should look sharp and long.

The jewellery

Not credited and worth a line: a pearl choker sitting high on the neck, with a finer gold chain layered under it, plus small gold earrings and a ring.

Pearls against a pinstripe blazer and a leather skirt is the kind of combination that looks like a mistake written down and works completely in practice. It is also the cheapest thing you could add — a simple pearl choker costs very little and does more for this outfit than the shoes do.

What it costs

Five pieces, $155.95 against $11,160. That is 98.6 per cent less.

One thing this page makes obvious: the two items doing the most visible work — the white top and the tan bag — together cost under forty dollars. What you are copying is a colour arrangement, and colour is free.
