David Beckham’s Navy Loro Piana Suit at the Madrid Grand Prix: Get the Look
The original
$19,800
Our version
$119.51
Six pieces credited, $19,800, in the paddock at the Madrid Grand Prix — the same race where we priced Vinícius Jr’s outfit. It is David Beckham’s third appearance here, after St Tropez and his Tudor Black Bay Chrono.
A navy suit worn over a navy t-shirt, white trainers and dark sunglasses. Four of the six pieces are Loro Piana, and between them they cost $11,770.
Two disclosures before the prices. The sunglasses are from DB Eyewear, Beckham’s own label, so he is wearing his own product. And he is a long-standing Tudor ambassador, so the watch is a brand he is paid to represent.

Credited as two pieces — the blazer at $6,500 and the trousers at $3,500 — but worn as a suit, so we have priced it as one.
Look closely at the fabric: it is puckered all over, like crumpled paper. That texture is seersucker, a cotton weave where some threads are held tighter than others so the cloth ripples. It was made for hot weather — the ripples hold the fabric away from the skin — and it has been worn in summer for well over a century.
We could not find a trustworthy solid-navy seersucker suit at a low price; almost all of them are the classic blue-and-white stripe. So we have linked a navy linen suit instead. It is not the same weave, but it does the same job: a lightweight summer suit that creases naturally and looks relaxed rather than sharp.
Unstructured, soft shoulders, trousers with a slight break. Worn over a t-shirt, never a shirt and tie.

Navy, crew neck, fitted, tucked into the trousers. The same colour as the suit, so the whole outfit reads as one block of navy.
Six hundred and twenty dollars for a navy t-shirt. Loro Piana is known for its fabrics, and the cotton will be very good — but under a jacket, in sunlight, it is a navy crew neck.
Match the navy of the suit as closely as you can. The tonal effect is the point.

White, low, minimal, with no visible branding. Under the trouser hem, you see a white toe and nothing else.
Clean white, low-top, no logos. The white against the navy is the only contrast in the outfit.

Dark, square acetate frames. DB Eyewear is Beckham’s own label, made under licence by the eyewear group Safilo — so these are, in effect, the one piece of the outfit he designed himself.
Square, dark frame, dark lenses. A classic shape that a hundred brands make.

A number worth explaining. The Black Bay Ceramic retails at around $5,150 on a strap. The $7,800 credited here matches the newer version on a matching ceramic bracelet, which retails at about $7,725.
It is a 41mm matte black ceramic case with a Master Chronometer certified movement — tested by the Swiss metrology institute METAS for accuracy and resistance to magnetism, a certification that very few brands carry.
As on every watch page here, there is no alternative. See Beckham’s Black Bay Chrono page for more on his relationship with Tudor.
What it costs
Five pieces, $119.51 against $19,800. That is 99.4 per cent less.
Without the watch, the clothing cost $12,000 and we replaced it for $119.51 — 99.0 per cent less.
And the quiet lesson of this outfit is the colour. Everything above the ankle is navy — suit, t-shirt, even the frames read dark. That single decision is why it looks expensive, and it costs nothing to copy.
