Carlos Alcaraz’s All-Black Louis Vuitton Outfit: Get the Look
The original
$5,000
Our version
$103.22
Three pieces credited, $5,000, carrying a trophy across a lawn in Melbourne. All black, and all Louis Vuitton.
Which is not an accident. Alcaraz has been a Louis Vuitton house ambassador since June 2023. Head-to-toe single brand at a moment like this is a contract being honoured, not a man who happened to like three things from the same shop. Worth knowing when you look at the photograph.
The uncredited pieces are a plain black t-shirt and a gold watch. The t-shirt matters more than it sounds, and we will come to it.

The most expensive item, and the shape is the whole point. This is a workwear jacket — a chore coat, the thing French labourers wore for a century — cut in tailoring cloth and made black.
That is the joke Louis Vuitton is telling at $2,800: a working man’s jacket, executed like a suit. Shirt collar, straight boxy body, four patch pockets, button front. No lapels, no structure at the shoulder.
What is different: there is a small LV monogram badge on the chest. We are not looking for that, and you should not either — a chore jacket with a fake monogram on it is a counterfeit, and the plain version reads better anyway.
Buy it boxy and slightly long. It should end below the hip and hang straight rather than nipping at the waist.

Black, tailored through the hip, then flaring from the knee down over the shoe. Not wide all the way — that is a different trouser. These are fitted at the top and opened up at the bottom.
The flare is what makes the outfit modern rather than formal. A straight tailored trouser with the same jacket gives you a man in a black suit; the flare pulls it somewhere else entirely.
Length matters: they should cover most of the shoe and almost touch the ground. Too short and the flare has nowhere to go.

Black leather slip-on moccasins with a low, soft profile. Barely visible under the trousers — you see the toe and very little else.
Which is the argument for spending nothing here. With a flared trouser covering the foot, the shoe only needs to be black, low and unshiny. A loud or chunky shoe would fight the line the trousers are making.
Slip-on, no laces, no visible hardware.

Eight dollars, uncredited, and the thing holding the outfit together. In a photograph that is black from collar to shoe, this is what fills the gap where a shirt and tie would normally be.
A white t-shirt under that jacket gives you a completely different outfit — more casual, more broken up. Black keeps the whole torso reading as one continuous block, which is why the jacket looks like tailoring rather than a coat over clothes.
Plain, crew neck, no print. Match the black as closely as you can to the jacket.
What it costs
Four pieces, $103.22 against $5,000. That is 97.9 per cent less.
The thing this outfit is actually built on costs nothing: everything is the same colour. Three black garments and a black t-shirt, in slightly different textures, with no pattern and no contrast anywhere.
That is a decision, not a purchase. You can make it with clothes you already own.
