Anya Taylor-Joy’s Archive Gaultier Outfit at the Japanese GP: Get the Look
The original
$7,930
Our version
$108.96
Four pieces credited, $7,930, in the paddock at Suzuka. And we should be honest about this one immediately, because it is the hardest outfit we have tried to price.
The bustier is a Jean Paul Gaultier piece from Spring/Summer 1991. Thirty-five years old. Not in production, not reissued, and it appears for sale perhaps a handful of times a year through archive dealers.
Worse, from a copying point of view, it is genuinely unrepeatable. Panelled leather in black, red, cobalt and mustard, with exposed zips running vertically through the body. Nothing on the high street looks like that, because nothing on the high street is built like that.
So here is what this page can and cannot do. Three of the four items copy cleanly. The bustier does not, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Faux leather flare pants, black

Black leather, sitting low on the hip, straight through the thigh and flaring from the knee down over the shoe. This is the piece holding the whole outfit up.
The flare is what dates it correctly. A skinny or straight leather trouser puts this outfit in a different decade entirely; the boot cut is what makes it read as early 2000s rather than generic.
Low rise matters too. Hers sit below the navel, which is what creates the gap of skin between trouser and bustier — and that gap is part of the design, not an accident.

GENSHUO
Square toe strappy stiletto sandals, red
$37.99
Save $812

Thin red straps and a square toe, on a very fine stiletto. Almost nothing to them, which is why they work under a wide flared trouser — anything chunkier would fight the leg line.
What is different: hers are leather, ours are patent, so they shine a little more. The shape and the colour match — and the colour is what matters here: the flash of red at the floor echoes the red panels in the bustier and closes the outfit.

The Emmy glasses

Breaksun
Retro rectangle glasses, thin frame
$11.99
Save $168
Price checked 5 September 2026
Thin rectangular optical frames — actual glasses, not sunglasses, worn indoors in daylight. Small, narrow, sitting low on the nose.
They do something useful here: against a very loud top, a fine severe frame is the only quiet, precise thing in the picture. A chunky or coloured frame would add to the noise rather than balance it.

This is the section where we have to be straight with you. The alternative listed above is a plain faux leather corset. It is not this bustier. It does not have the colour panels, it does not have the exposed zips, and it will not read the same way in a photograph.
The link on the left goes to Jean Paul Gaultier as a brand, not to this garment. The 1991 piece surfaces through archive dealers occasionally, at four figures. Treat that button as background.
So what can you actually do? Two honest options.
Buy the plain corset and accept that you are copying the silhouette rather than the piece — boned, structured, cropped at the waist, worn over bare skin with low trousers. That shape alone carries a lot of the outfit.
Or go looking properly. Colour-panelled corsets with visible hardware do exist on Etsy and through small makers who build them to order. Expect to pay somewhere between one and three hundred dollars and to wait. That is a real route to something close, and it is more honest than pretending a $29 corset gets you there.
What we would not do is buy something with a Gaultier label on it at a suspiciously low price. This is one of the most counterfeited archive pieces in fashion.
What it costs
Four pieces, $108.96 against $7,930. That is 98.6 per cent less.
And as on our Kim Kardashian page, that number needs qualifying. Strip out the archive bustier and the three items you can genuinely replicate cost $2,780 originally against $79.97 here — 97.1 per cent less, which is the number that actually means something.
The lesson from this outfit is not about price. It is that a thirty-five-year-old bustier, black leather flares and a pair of thin red heels is a combination anyone could have assembled — if they happened to own the bustier.
